Do it yourself projects can save you a lot of money. When you know how to do the work correctly, you can easily make all of your home repairs and remodels weekend or vacation projects throughout the year.
Not only will the cost be low, but you will be adding a lot of value to your home if you want to sell it in the future. If you want to remodel your bathroom, you will find that the first project you will have to undertake is installing bathroom drywall.
The Difference For Bathrooms
If you have installed drywall before, then you will know how bathroom drywall will go up. The only difference is you will have to use a different type of drywall that will resist molding.
Because it is a bathroom, water does tend to get everywhere. The materials that you use for dry walling a bathroom should be water resistant and mold resistant to keep from causing problems later.
If this is your first drywalling project, you will want to make sure that you have all of the right materials line up first. You will need drywall sheets that will cover all of the walls and the ceiling.
Then, you will need joint tape, joint compound, drywall screws and a drill. Once you have all of your materials, you will need to begin by measuring the walls and making the drywall cuts.
Installing drywall is a simple process. Once you have all the drywall measured to fit, you will fit it plumb to the wall and drill screws into the drywall along the studs.
Continue in this manner until you have all of the walls covered in drywall. If you have any special cuts, you will want to make sure you measure twice in order to get it right the first time.
Next, you will want to take a trowel and go over the joints with joint compound. Along with this process, you will want to apply the joint tape. For each joint, you will apply a coat of compound, then the tape.
Later, once this dries, you will have to go over the tape with one more coat of joint compound. You will also need to fill the screws in with joint compound as well.
Once the joint compound is dry, you will need to go over all of these areas with a sander, making sure that the wall is smooth and even. Then you can go ahead and paint the walls.
If you want to put texture on the walls or the ceiling, you will want to do this before you paint. Make sure that the texture is sprayed on evenly and is something that you like.
Installing bathroom drywall is just like installing any other type of drywall, other than the fact that the bathroom tends to be smaller than any other room in the house and you will probably need to make more cuts in the drywall in order to accommodate the space.
