What is Laminate Flooring

Laminate flooring is normally made up of four layers, namely the overlay or the wear layer, the DPL or the decorative paper, the core layer, and the stabilizing layer. The next layer, the decorative paper, offers uniqueness and specificity to the laminate flooring, by giving the appearance of wood, ceramic or stone designs. The core layer of the flooring laminate is made up of high or medium density fiberboard which is saturated in the resin, in order to make it even more resistant and harder.
There are manufacturers that add a moisture resistant resin to the core layer to prevent the penetration of the water under the boards. And, finally, the stabilizing layer is what offers stability to the laminate flooring. This bottom layer consists in moisture resistant resins.
Is Laminate Wood or Not
Although the laminate flooring is not considered to be real wood, it is still wood. The use of resin for flooring laminate in the paper that is applied on the top layer does not mean that that wood is not used. In fact, the layers are put on a wood-chip material. Therefore, flooring laminate can be considered to be wood, at least from a technical point of view. But the resin layer is still just a photograph of wood. The disadvantage of installing laminate flooring consists in the fact that it is slippery and rather hard to walk on.
